TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL VIDEO ONLINE AUDITION

SET UP YOUR SPACE:
Kids in the background, barking family dogs, televisions, cell phones, land lines, or any other distractions are not good. Be sure to find the right time and place to do your recording – uninterrupted. This is your time, your chance and your nickel. Give it your best shot from the start. Focus. Have a comfy chair to sit in and a glass of water at arms length.

LIGHTING:
Be sure to have a light source on your face. A desk lamp, a floor lamp etc…Always check your live image in your review screen on the computer BEFORE recording! Too much light from under your face may present you as sinister…same goes for too much light from above.

EYE CONTACT:
It’s all in the eyes! Use them. Be sure to make eye contact with your vid cam. Try to keep your distance from the camera at a range that allows us to see fully your expressions.

VOICE:

Be sure to speak clearly and audibly. Mumbling is funny but just not appropriate when trying to impress an agent. Don’t forget to accentuate poignant parts of the script and to also back off on other parts. Show range in your vocal projection. Show natural technique.

PRACTICING – RECORDING – SENDING:
Find the “MONITOR MODE” button on your screen. Use this mode to set up lighting and practice reading into. When you engage this option – your script choice will commence rolling across the bottom of your screen. This is a teleprompted script – just like being on set. It will be preceded by a countdown starting from 10. When it hits 1, the script appears. The key is to read the script yet not sound like you are reading. Be natural. When you have practiced enough and are ready to record – press “RECORD” and you are on your way. Press ‘REVIEW” to see and hear how you sound. Press ‘RECORD” again if you want to re-record yourself. When you get the read you were looking for and you are fully sure you have done the best read you can do – push “SEND”. An agent will contact you via email with a full review of your read within 2 business days.
