Ian small 231x300 Ian David LaytonIan David Layton has been an International Professional model since 1997. Within a month of being ‘discovered’ in Calgary, and having his test shots done, he began working in Milan, Italy; subsequently, working in such countries as France, Germany, Thailand, Japan, Hong Kong, China, and London, England …to name a few.

“My experience as a professional model for the past 15 years granted me the opportunity to travel, to see parts of the world and other cultures, while doing something I really enjoyed – modelling. Yes, my journey thus far has been an amazing, adventurous one, however, there are some misconceptions of the modelling industry that seem to exist…”

“…modelling can be glamorous, fun, exciting, etc., but it’s not easy. Living out of a suitcase, going through ‘culture shock’, and being away from family and friends can potentially take it’s toll… it’s not for everyone.”

“A model must think of themselves as a business, and treat themselves as such – they must take care of their health and well-being, physique, etc… and always be ready. Only a very small percentage of models turn out to be ‘super models’, most of us have to pay our dues for the first while before the career really takes off. It’s maintaining this ‘career’ that’s the hard part – this is where a good Agency comes into play.”

“There’s one rule of thumb I live by – find your niche market (those that love you) and go there! It’s hard work, which is where a good agent is necessary, and why paying the fees are important – a good, well-connected agency not only gets you the potential jobs, they also help prepare and educate you to land that job!”

“Having great photos (i.e. test shots for beginners) done by a professional photographer (and not your average “Joe”), is a good place to start – it represents your true potential and various possibilities.”
